When I joined FOC Tony H-H told me I had to wear shorts at all times....

Quick update as I know people are watching, Tuesday night we did lots of clearing up and painting of doors and locker lids, last night we put the first topcoat on the topsides, I had hoped to get away with one coat, but tonight it didn't look good enough, so we whacked a second topcoat on. When I say 'we' painted it, I mean Lorna and I, I brush on and she follows along laying off, she's become a very good boat painter!

first coat on the cove line tomorrow.

Long overdue for an update on Playtime, its been a bit mixed, my target was to get back in the water and running for the Yarmouth Old gaffers over the weekend just passed and unfortunately we didn’t quite make it.

Progress on the boat, the wood work and the paint I have been very pleased with, she looks very good and is in the best condition that she has been in for years, structurally she is in perfect shape, cosmetically there is a still a few bits to do, electrical bits require some finishing off.

She is not leaking a drop.

One thing I wanted to achieve was replacement of all hoses, exhaust, raw water, fuel lines, fuel returns, fuel fillers, fuel vent hoses, bilge pump hoses are all new.

New anode bolts. New bolts on the exhaust outlets. New lids on the tank inspection hatches with new rubber gaskets. New ‘333’ and new union jacks, new bow badges courtesy of Chris Davey waiting fitment.

So the not so good bits, I found that my port engine had water in the sump, so I bought a spare pair of engines, the starboard one seems to be in great shape, the port one is running well, sounds good, but refuses to pull any raw water through and I think one other issue too.

We’re off on holiday after the Ginns Farm do so finishing off and getting running will have to wait until we get back. Its a shame we’ll be coming to Ginns in the car.

All in all I am pleased with the result, I could have done with a couple more weeks before this lovely weather arrived.

Did I mention the second/third (depends who is counting!) trip to A & E? No....

Crikey, nearly a month has passed...time for an update, things have been a bit slow on Playtime, we went off to France on holiday for a week (700 miles in a morris minor, 60 bottles of red), since then the weather has been patchy to say the least.

The spare engines I bought had alternators on them that required remote regulator units which took me a while to work out, so I borrowed the alternators from the original engines, one of which promptly went up in a smoke, I thought I had made a wiring error causing the smoke, it turned out I had the wiring correct, they were a bit sooty and oily inside. Both have now been cleaned, serviced and tested and are charging fine.

Port engine required a replacement starter motor and a raw water problem to be fixed.

Both engines now run, both charge, both pull through copious quantities of raw water, both tacho’s work, some of the gauges work, some need looking at.

Still a few bits and bobs to do, but hopefully a test run next weekend.

Wow, 60 bottles between 2 of you in a week! I'm surprised you could walk, let alone drive.
She's looking good Ben
cheers Jonathan
