I like the phrase: the task's "enormity... coupled with lack of funds". It could apply to almost any restoration!

Maybe this is the answer to my search for somebody to make air scoops for a H28!
It says the Bluebird Project team are highly skilled at reforming extremely crumpled, broken and often unidentifiable lumps of wreckage, back into usable components.

Then they show a picture of the Barracuda air scoop after straightening and reformation.

So far I have been to one of the leading restorers of Aston Martins, a leading restorer of Bugattis, and another famous restoration company, all through introductions of friends. But to no avail.

Any ideas on companies that can form new scoops in the original method welcome.

Which original method?

Early ones were bashed copper and then plated

Later ones are GRP mouldings.

'Which original method?'

Pattern is made, then sheet of copper beaten over sandbag. Very slow and the therefore pricy as the copper quickly work hardens it is annealed then process starts over. Process repeated until work matches pattern.

Each scoop for Artemis took around two days of beating and annealing, plus the cost of chrome plating, plus the cost of the patterns. Came out about £300 each, and that was 15 years ago.

Just a thought. The Classic Car Show is coming up very soon at the NEC.
he last time I went here were variety of metal bashers at work and I do recall someone making chain box covers for old Matchlesses which were the same sort of shape.
Could be worth a trip.
