New Project

Post by Folly Reach »

After 5 years without a Fairey I have taken the plunge again for what will be my 4th Fairey.
We have just purchased the half completed project Dawn Patrol an ex military Spear powered by a pair of Ford Dover engines. She sadly became available after the owner of the last 20 years passed away.
Many thanks to all the usual suspects for relevant advice received and about to be given!
I will attempt some pictures if someone can advise the process.Regards Ian

Hi Ian
Will you be reconfiguring as a Spearfish, or keeping the wheelhouse?

Wheelhouse long gone. Came with new screen in kit form.
Windows all upgraded to Spearfish style.

I had a look at Dawn Patrol in the shed at Soar a few months ago. A local chap told me about it, as it had gone missing from Salcombe for some time. Some good work had been done. The engines were out and non matching One was sound the other not I was told.. The boat was very strongly built, more so than a Spearfish. The work had become moribund , though the owner was not selling.
Very pleased to hear it has been bought. It will make a lovely Spearfish

Great to read that this boat has been taken on by someone who knows what they are doing - well done Ian!

(I saw this boat some 5+ years ago and had a survey, oil analysis and sea-trial but too far apart on price).

Well done Ian. Do you have her over on the Island?

"the engines were out and non matching one was sound the other not I was told"... They both started on the button when tested on pallets. Same result two days later first thing in the morning from a cold start.
