Further to my write-up in the recent Journal.
Sad to report that one of the shipwrights involved has fallen off a boat (not mine) and busted his shoulder slowing progress.
Earlier this week I was making some templates for the new deck and cutting marine ply for same. Aficionados for these boats already know that sometimes the decks are not quite as symmetrical as one might presume - keeps people on their toes.
Today I was studying and measuring the internals of my 'interim' engine; A 7.4 litre marine Chevrolet V8 'big block' petrol engine that came with water-cooled exhausts. I discovered it's a high performance version with gear-driven cam and other goodies. It came out of a ski-boat and was an unknown quantity on purchase but only requires: honing the cylinders; new rings; bearings; gaskets; a couple of heli-coils and a new sump.
So far, so good but I have a lot to learn about the Holley 4 barrel carb and transistorized ignition. Convenient I fly to the States next week.
