the phantom
Having got her back last week and out in the yard on Tuesday I have made start on the refurb . The saloon galley and heads are now stripped back to bare GRP mouldings . Problems found are dodgy wiring, shower plumbing in fact all plumbing is a tangled mess, window frame timber some rot and a terrible job to remove old toilet plumbing and waste tank. All cabinet work has come out as some ends have rot in the panel ends and will need to be remade . The windows came out quite easily there are just so many screws I think extra ones were put in to try and stop leaks the wooden battens have some rot in them so will need to remove and epoxy some replacements in . There seems to be grey mastic on the battens and then rubber sealant round the outside of the Perspex not sure if this was how they were originally installed . The heads is very poorly designed the door should be at the forward end with toilet in front as you enter and the cabinet at the rear . this would take advantage of extra head height at the forward end . I am considering moving the door but this may be to much work. I thought all this cutting and sawing had finished would upload pics but total failure . Nick

Re: the phantom
Progress has been going ahead have spoken to a polishing guy who comes down to the yard his work seems good . He thinks hull will come up very well at a cost of £170 that seems fair. He seem to think the gelcoat is thick enough and in good enough condition to be re polished as well but will need to give small area a try first . The windows have been remade and the rotten woodwork around the window has been replaced. The cabinets and window surrounds are starting to looking nice and shiny 5 coats varnish so far may be one or two more . I have used 4 8x4 sheets of 4mm ply for all the trim panels that took ages to do using old as ones templates . The Electrics gave me bit of scare as I found 2 bare 240v trailing ends checked through all of the rest are secure .
I have now also got the new vinyl ready to start re assembly after water testing the windows for leaks . The plan will be to split the job into areas saloon galley and heads ,aft cabin , cockpit engines then outside . Complete one then move to next then there should not be to much mess . Nick

Gosh
A lot to do. A bit more history Roger Walker bought the boat mid 90 s.Ian Driver was the broker. It was on the Hamble It had 225 Sabres,, but was slow, much slower then Gay Charger with the same power. He fitted brand new 300s and got the speed back to Gay Charger. He reckoned the weight of the boat was 5.5 tons. I have a photo somewhere of the boat in Salcombe.

Many thanks to Ben for uploading the pictures . It really is that much to do ,the high vis toilet is the new safety feature so if the boat sinks when on the throne it will make you more visible for rescue. .Nick
