It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas (in February)
On a day when the world news was uniformly grim, at Hamble it was one of those red-letter days when everything went well.
The new screens have arrived, along with the re-chromed stern cleats - they've made a super jub of them. And then if that wasn't enough, if not santa's sleigh, then a large flatbed lorry turned up with the enclosed..... it's all starting to look very real now!

Engines look lovely!
Did you get down angle, 1:1 and handed props?
Looking forward to seeing the new windcreens.

Hi Ben,
No, in the end that proved impossible so I've angled gearboxes (ZFs) but as you can't have that and 1:1 I'm having new props as well...though in truth that's no great shame as the old ones were little more than egg whisks.....
The new engines have a 100mm exhaust rather than the 3 inch for the Fords so that's another change, but whilst this is all going on I've no wish to put my smart new cabin door NOR the new screens in - they can be fairly late in the process.
I've one outstanding job to do now... the chart plotter is destined for the curved cabin roof just above the instrument panel. But..(a) it us curved and (b) I've a 40mm drop in 180mm - so I'm going to need to create some form of base but out of which material and how.... not there yet!
The other realisation is that my fuel tanks are small - just 25 gallons a side (so per engine)

I recently changed my exhaust outlets, which may be the subject of an FOC article. Shout if you need to discuss.

Playtime did 2.7mpg at 20 knots on a long run, bit better running around the Solent as a higher proportion of distance spent in harbours at tickover.
So the pair were burning 7.4 gallons an hour, 3.8 gallons each.
If you have 25 gallon tanks then you have a useable 18 gallons, so you have an endurance of 4.75 hours which is 95 miles range, enough to safely get to Dartmouth in reasonable weather. Fuel burn can increase dramatically in choppy seas.
So I think you need a line of 40 gallons drums just like From Russia with Love.

More from the work on Rosina of Netley.... 5X years on after my father complained that he could row to the Island faster, I'm hoping that the problems are now 'sorted' (except we won't be able to afford to cross the Solent the way things are going).
But...looking good...

Bravo!
A brand spanking new pair of engines in a Fairey boat is a fine sight.

Thanks Ben - it is a more positive feeling when things start to come together are you're putting things in rather than ripping them out!
I've still one question to address and that is how to mount the new chart plotter on the curved area of the cabin roof ahead of the helm position but before the screens. There's about a 25mm drop over the 200mm of the plotter base - I could get some stainless folded, get something made in wood...but a possible solution is to look at getting something run up on a 3d Printer. This though is the challenge for next week - today I'm trying the new door for size (at least the boat will now be secure - the old lock and doors weren't up to much) - plan is to be afloat for Easter.... but that's only a plan at this stage!

Re the issue of mounting the Chart Plotter we're SORTED! Many thanks to Paul in Here and Now, who I saw coming up the River. I did wave...but he was past already so I legged it on up to his berth just in time to interrupt his lunch! But having looked at Here and now the answer is simple...
Thanks Paul for all the advice, I hope I didn't spoil your meal... but you've moved things on for me so a 'result'!
