I am not a member anymore, but wondered what had happened to the club
1 I understand that Charles was unfortunately ill and this may have led to
the Summer magazine not being published. Nothing was said on the forum
about either of these matters.
2 The website does not now have the old photo records, or even new ones.
The build list and update on owners or locations of boats has long gone.
3 The forum IS all but dead. A shame as many non members followed this.
This often led to their involvement, or purchasing of boats.
4 I understand there are less boat meets than in the past.
I guess like many thing the club had a golden age and people move on.

Re: The owners club
I agree with Mike …
I am still a Member of the Club, ( since the 70’s-80’s )albeit a non Fairey owner for some years …(old age !)
I think there is an active “What’s App” group which probably affects the content of the Club Forums.
It’s a shame !
I wonder what the late lamented “Goughy” would have thought about the moribund FOC Forums ??
Happy Days !!

Re: The owners club
Hi, David,
Just a couple of links to point you in the direction of the photos etc.
From the Fairey owners web site...https://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/
The photos from the old web site have been up loaded to the new site (along with a few new ones).
These can be accessed by navigating to "Fairey Owners Club" on the top bar on the home screen, hovering your mouse over the "Fairey Owners Club" to see the drop downs, the 4th drop down is > Photo Gallery" hover your mouse over it to see > Fairey Marine Power or Fairey Marine Power Race > click to select as per the links below.
https://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/club ... ine-power/
https://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/club ... ower-race/
The hull production archive (build list, owners and locations of boats etc) is alive and now mostly now up to date. It is stored under the Members Area which also allows viewing of Historical Fairey Brochures / links to Fairey Marine films / AB Propeller information / Past editions of Fairey News / Various Manuals / AGM minutes.
https://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/home ... bers-area/
PS: as it’s a member’s area its Password controlled.
With regard to the “Fairey News”, the Fairey Owners Club commits to publish one edition a year, but due to the enthusiasm of members we have managed to publish a summer edition over the last few years. For various reasons, not least a dearth of contributions we took the view that we would not publish a summer edition this year, but we aim to publish a larger edition this winter that will be circulated to members at Christmas.

Re: The owners club
The production archive is NOT fully up-to-date...at least the Huntress section is a mess! I know this because I'm listed as the owner of the wrong boat and the details I supplied (at least twice) have been garbled and not fully uploaded!
I've given up trying to help make it correct...
As for the rest of the forum, it is pretty dead, really...very little activity. I think there are a few (less than 10) active members and posters on the forum and probably this reflects the wider off-line situation also.
Since I am also a member of several classic car groups and forums I can say that mostly the internet forum is dead amongst those, too. Any active groups are mostly on Facebook these days...Plenty (for example) Mazda MX5 groups and a very active BMW S14 (E30 M3, mainly) group. There are also several more active boating groups on there...Solent Boating, Classic British Boats and lots of Perkins diesel (and marine diesel in general) groups.
IMHO, this forum (and probably the club) needs to move to a more current format to ensure it survives in the future.

Re: The owners club
The boat photos compiled by Per and Charles, each individual boat and boat meets
does seem to have gone. Point me to it?
This was an invaluable record for restoration, and just interesting.
It’s good that more boats seem to be restored, but a shame the
Foc has reduced so much from Scott glory days.

Re: The owners club
Hi Julz,
Nice chatting to you and we have now got to the bottom of the confusion.
Your boat Hermes Hull number 176 was up dated with the information you sent to the FOC, but I did not realise that there was another Hermes and that your name was also against that one as well...I have now removed your name from the Hull number 212.
Please also check that your computer is not storing the older version in its cache, as if it is you might not be seeing the latest version.
And as requested I will ad you to the Whatsapp group.
Cheers Mark

Re: The owners club
That’s it then I guess over 130 views and only 3 replies. Perhaps clubs are
not what people want these days. Perhaps it’s the ageing population
as is happening with the classic car scene.
The high point was a group of really enthusiastic people and they
have done their bit or moved on. I’ve got a Boston Whaler Conquest now
and the wife says this is much more salubrious than our Huntsman
or Spearfish. All shiny and modern.
Still I hanker back.

Re: The owners club
While the forum is much quieter, the club is still going well in my view. The committee organised an outstanding Laying up Supper and it was great to meet so many excellent people and their boats. I am really grateful for their efforts, especially as they all volunteer their time. So I would encourage enthusiasts to come along, it really is a nice club.
David, good luck with your Whoston Baler, I will be happiest sticking with a beautiful Spearfish, especially in the rough.
Best Toby
