Spearfish steering box

Post by wsmempson »

Does anyone know what this came out of? The one in Marlin has been under water and is pretty much seized, so before I go having someone try and overhaul it, I wondered if there was an obvious source for a better one!

Is Marlin the boat Gordon has for sale. The words on the stern suggest this.
I only know Marlin Express. Interested to know the previous name
of the Chichester Marlin.

Also the Huntsman 28 Chasseur on Gordons site appears to have been sold and
is now moored at the mouth of the Dart near the castle
A stunning boat with a stunning finish.

David,
She's ashore nr Bosham whilst I work through all the defective maintenance that took place under previous ownership before I bought her. She will be in Chichester harbour.

Hi Saul.
When I acquired my Spear/Spearfish she had minimal steering components. Just a Hydraulic ram and nothing else. The previous owner having passed away.
I took the route of teleflex steering which I used to have on my Huntsman31.
Worked really well and with good feedback and not a massively expensive route to take.

Saul,

The original steering uses what appear to be British Leyland components. Certainly Sherpa UJs and I think Austin Healey steering boxes. Definitely automotive so not too difficult. You are welcome to look over mine if you wish.

Hello, I replaced all the ball joints on the steering system on my Spearfish a couple years ago. I found a very helpful chap that could supply everything as new old stock.
If you can wait a couple weeks until I return home from work I'll dig out his business card and share the details.

Yes please Rob. Plenty of other things to be getting on with in the interim!
