fantome fuel tank

Post by nickkieffer1 »

Got the boat ashore at last to check exhaust hose leak things have now got worse . exhaust elbow was suspected
so the turbo and water injection with hose had to come off. all straight forward .No ... studs were seized and rusted in turbine case .This then became whole turbine case scrap as rust had made it leak , this was where the water was coming
from . New parts are unobtainable so a new turbo charger had to be sourced from Germany modified to suit the installation
to get hose and oil feed in correct position. This has now arrived and am waiting for exhaust outlet without rusted
away flange to be made it is amazing how exhaust lagging hides so much. Still this gave me time (dont laugh) to put under water lights on the transom .A week ashore has turned int a kind of nightmare I m totally worn out with all the struggle getting every thing apart now waiting for someone else to get a job done .Will I make it to the rally cant say as more bits may fall off .Nick

Hi Nick,
I had a similar problem when I bought Shadow, a small water leak in the exhaust, water dripping in to the Turbo cover which acted as a sponge and generated a salt jacket (see pictures). My turbo was sacrificed as well.

Hope you manage to get her running and make to the rally, the drop date for food and boat bookings in the marina is the 30th May.

Good Luck Mark

Looks familiar have got turbo unit back hoping to have exhaust tubing back soon. When I took the unit off
the rubber hose was at the point of collapse as well, have made new section fore both short lengths to the elbow .
The boat was fairly tidy but now looks a mess as so much has had to be removed . Still a chance to get to the rally
should be good .Nick
