Huntress 23"

Post by mcjp6 »

I am just about to buy a Huntress that is for sale here in Sydney.

Does anyone know where I can locate the hull number.

Thanks for your assistance,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I had heard there was one down there and briefly saw an ad for it a few months ago and then all went quiet.
The hull number could be in a couple of places... easiest is to check is the underside of the bunk fill-in pieces, then more probably stamped into the rear of the keel either inside butting next to the transom under the fuel tank! or just forward of the rudder shaft on the outside of the keel. Could be a needle in a haystack job! Sadly no guarantee you will find it but worth a try.
Failing that any idea of her history, past owners or engine number?
These could all give me a clue.
I know a H28 went down there back in back in 1962 to a Mr Purves who was then the MD of Fairey Aviation in Bankstown and a Spearfish has certainly been seen in the Sydney area
Would love to see any photos you have of your Huntress if you could e-mail me at tonyh-h@tiscali.co.uk
Good luck
Tony

Hello Michael,

Tony forwarded that ad to me at the time. The boat in question appeared to be, in fact, a Christina. The cockpit coamings were similar to a huntress but these could have been a later addition. The cabin superstructure was pure Christina with two separate "roofs" and the characteristic sloping curved twin windows in front and trapezoidal side windows. It may not be important to you but Christinas tend to command considerably lower prices than Huntresses, so it would be wise to check before parting with the hard-earned.

Incidentally I tried to contact the then owner to find out more about the boat but he didn't reply.

Regards,

Bill.
