I am re-placing the original mechanical steering on my Spear for a hydraulic system. If anyone wants the parts, for the cost of shipping from Dubai, let me know. The rudder arm gearbox was slipping and the wheel gears have a little slack but the right person may be able to bring it back to life if motivated.
Let me know as I will be skipping it in a couple of weeks.
I have no idea of the shipping cost but if anyone is interested I will find out.

I have e-mailed someone to see if it's worth rescueing and will see...if worst comes to the worst maybe one of the DXB engineers could bring it back with them in Apr/May if it's not too bulky...someone might want it
Also...Is the wheel really not worth hanging on to or is it past the point of no return?

The joints on the Wheel spokes are very loose. When the wheel is mounted there is 2 or 3 inches of play at the rim. I must admit I haven’t put a lot of effort into investigating a resurrection as I have prioritised other areas of the boat to get it in the water for the sailfish season. Aesthetically the wheel is sound but for one or two rust spots that could be easily polished out.
If any crew you know could take the gear back that would be a lot easier. I’m at DXB(airport) regularly at the moment, working with Emirates on their Sim’s.
