Clearview screen

Post by Bill Egan »

Does anyone know where to get a Clearview screen (Kent screen) suitable for a Huntress (so not too industrial!)?
I'm also looking for a good deck covering, like the original "canvas" effect plastic, to keep the rain out (can't stretch to teak at the moment). Any ideas?

Hi Bill,
Using the 'search' button above top right and typing in KENT will reveal several ideas from members. Basically Kent was taken over by Wynne Marine Ph 01242 232266 but suggest you read the 10 or so other messages that pop up as there's some other contacts there as well. Re the decking, think it was called trackmark or something like that and am prety sure that the maker went down the pan but will make some more enquiries and adv
All the best
Tony
P.S. re the above, it's not Trackmark...but Nautiflex but neither was used on Huntress decks...Maybe someone might remember what it was called but Neil Perry remembers seeing a Huntress with it on but he too cannot remember

Hi Bill,

I spoke with Wynn Marine regarding one of their smaller Kent Screens for my Huntress. The C9 (9" diameter and central motor) I think was the original but is no longer made- Wynn can supply spares though.

Their new version the D230 is about 10 inches in diameter - and the D280 12 inches - with a side motor and belt drive.

Send me email (click on my profile at the side of this message) and I can pass on the info I have on the kent clearview screens or as HH says, try Wynn direct. I spoke with a Mark Rogers who is/was a sales engineer at Wynn.

I didn't fit one in the end. the D230 was just a little too big for the windscreen fitted to Maid of Baltimore and I found that regular applications of Mer polish to the screen made the water slide off pretty rapidly anyway. However, Fairey boats look right with a Kent screen.

One alternative is to try the Foulke's Chandlery barge at Burseldon. They somtimes have old Kent units lying around.

Can't say much about canvas decks - The Maid has a teak deck.

cheers,
Scott

Just my luck!
I tried Wynn.
Mr Rogers left last week and Bob Williams there told me they had had a clearout of the stores and disposed of the legacy spares (though they still do the window seal!)a few months ago.

Should have brought a Shetland! (No just kidding, don't send hate mail)

I have a Huntress with canvas covered decks and i believe it is called Cascover, luckily mine is in good condition other than where the ropes have rubbed slightly

On the other subject of screens i would like to know who would make me some windscreens for my Huntress

Hi David,
Are you talking about just the perspex screen or the frame as well?
If the perspex then see the various suppliers on the reference page...possibly that Peter Foulkes might have a jig for a Huntress screen - see Shipwrights listing on the Reference page for his number.
Osprey had her frame copied from Syphon so it was slightly taller than a regular Huntress by about 2" but it helped to keep you dry! that was the plan anyway!
I found a local chap in my local yellow pages who was superb with s/s and he made the s/s surrounds to each of the 4 screens. He also helped me bend the perspex to shape using a hot air gun> he then told me that it was a lot of work get to it looking right but then end result was superb.
Hope this helps
Tony
