Tony,
We could have a voluntary open register for consenting adults?
Happy November.

Why don't we just add details of boat name and mobile to a Forum Topic, for members to respond to as they chose?
Straight forward and easily printed.

Nearly all computers have address books that will export information in v card format.

If each of us set up a new contact as below, they could all be emailed to one person who would copy them into an address book and could then export them as v cards to anyone who wanted the list. The circulation would therefore be limited to members. When you have the v cards you can format lists as you wish.

The contact name would be the boat type, hull number and name
- eg H28 no.130 'Burnardette'
- the present owners name - surname, first name - could go in the company name box (to allow a sort by name as well as boat type)
- home port could go in job title box
- phone numbers, addresses, emails as normal (and optional)
- a photo can be included
- other info - previous names, previous owners etc can be put in the notes box.

I don't mind setting up a special mail box for this, if some of you would like to join me in an experiment.

This sounds a very good idea and one which we should follow up.

The full members list, based on a database, will soon be ready. The idea is to email it in a Word document form to those members that would like it, and print it out for those who don't have a computer. With 240 or so members, not all of whom are active on the forum, Charles's excellent idea might leave out rather too many worthy members.

As soon as the glitches have been ironed out I will post a note on the forum, and get them sent out.

A first round of experiment with my suggestion has not been very successful, so would need a rethink . . .

Anne - will your list include boat names, types?

Charles, you probably haven't seen one of the lists that were produced until a year or so ago, but the information included boat names and types, where moored etc as well as the member's details. It is your committee's intention to produce a list that is at least as good, and possibly better!

If mobile telephone numbers or contact details are to be included, why not MMSI numbers as well? It would make contacting a spotted vessel very simple!

Adrian,
Anne G wrote a very nice little ditty in the last Fairey News along with her contact details to get a copy of the list...see the last issue or send Anne an e-mail.
George...feel I shud put my headmasters hat on here and summon you to my study for not completing the MMSI form that went out in each of the Fairey News ..... took me hours to put them in! Best is now to call Anne and add your details with her and face the consequences!
All the best

Evening All

The membership list is ready to go out free of charge by email to any member who asks for it - just send me an email. It's in a Word document, all 46 pages of it! It's existence was mentioned in the FOC News, but perhaps it should have been IN CAPS!!!

I look forward to the deluge!!

George,
It's a new type of radio thingy and when you buy one you get a dedicated number. There shud have been an A4 Membership Update sheet in your Fairey News which asks for your MMSI number as well as mobile etc etc.
Maybe I lost it (the sheet) here as well, so welcome to the club! ... e-mail me your fax number and I'll send you a copy

I fitted an Icom 505 yesterday. It connects to my elderly Garmin 128 and displays lat long and time. The user has one chance to install the MMSI; I nearly made a mistake but recovered in time. I rang Icom to check on the wiring, and they were quick and helpful as I have always found them to be. A recommended bit of kit.
