Huntress Rally up the Thames in 2024.

Post by Ben »

Advance warning!

Hugo McGowan and I hatched a plan to meet up with our Huntresses, he's in the North East and I'm in the Solent and both our boats are in bits....

The outline plan at the moment is for the late May bank holiday weekend in 2024 we'll meet at Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the Friday, Saturday we'll run to Chatham, Sunday we'll run up the Thames into central London.

We're extending the invite to all Huntresses, Christinas and Rangers, plus the one off Huntress 26 and Huntsman 26's, any Fairey or WLS built Hunt design hull less than 28ft.

Bill Egan, Michael Young, Mark Hillreid...I'm looking at you kids!

Hi Ben

I have just seen this post, SYH would be happy to offer free berthing on Friday night for Fairey owners
we have a yacht club on site and a local pub in the village if you wished to be fed and watered.

kind regards
Josh

Hi Ben,

Great idea - welcome to Suffolk County!

Perhaps those boats and crews will stay on in Suffolk for the SYH Regatta? Often in early June but date for 2024 not yet set.

whooo hooo...RoNeY qualifies but getting there will be a tad interesting unless I can think of a way to increase the tankage (I'll be like the boat in From Russia with Love next!) as we only have 'short legs'. Timing might also be tight, the following weekend will be the 80th anniversary celebrations for D-Day....
But what a fantastic idea....I've jobs to do in Suffolk

That said, I can see a huge media opportunity if we could make it up the Thames - someone on Westminster Bridge to get some pictures with the HoP as a backdrop....
Thoughts - would we have to let the PLA know in advance?

At Josh - Thank you very much.

At Martin, actually, departing London and arriving at SYH for the regatta might be better.

@Dougal, I very much had you in mind.

Hi Ben,
I'm not saying that I'm excited at the prospect but I have already run a couple of simulated runs that looked like - Eastbourne, then Ramsgate. Dive around the corner and head for SYC.... then SYC, Chatham, London, Chatham -then for me..Brightlingsea (or Brightlingsea might have to be an extra stop on the way to SYC.
I'd be planning on cruising at 21kts.

Get a week of decent weather and this could be a hoot!
