Uffa Fox’s fastest dinghy

Post by CharlesL »

Uffa Fox’s fastest dinghy was the slim and beautiful eighteen foot Fairey Jollyboat, the most extreme design of the 1950s.
It was designed for a crew of three in 1953 intended to be a more relaxing ‘grown up’ Firefly! Fairey Marine produced nearly 400 Jollyboats in the 1950s and 60s. It was 18’-0 long with a 5’-2 beam and sail area of 160 square feet plus a spinnaker of 110 square feet.

A well known offshore powerboat racing family are seeking to find a new home for their Jollyboat, preferably with an individual or club who would actually sail her, rather than a museum.
Please contact me if this is of interest.

Hi,

I am a professional sailor, Tantarella Owner, former Huntsman owner and an Uffa Fox fanatic.

I am interested in the Jolly Boat and could promise it would go to a very enthusiastic owner.

Any more details on price, condition, equipment etc.

Thanks and kind regards,

Steve Hayles

Thanks Steve

I've passed your message (and others) on to the present owners.

As part of our recent move to Cowes, we nearly rented a house in East Cowes that was previously lived in by Uffa Fox, I really really wanted to, but it wasn't the right place for Piglet.
