H 28 Parts Wanted

Post by chrissywissy »

Hi All

I am searching for a few bits which will help in the restoration of Threadneedle. I would like to replace the stbd rudder for an original bronze one. Also looking for a pair of deck cleats of the original round base type for mounting amidships.

Cheers!

You might try Anthony Foulkes at the Barge, they scrapped a 28 and you might find a rudder.

You might also call Hamble props about the rudder as I know they have the Huntsman P bracket patterns, or Gordon Currey might have a rudder.

Captain Watts do a cleat that is very similar both with and without a centre bolt.

Hi Chris, just for info, I have never seen a Bronze rudder on a 28. Mine is Hull 34 and has original rudders which are not Bronze.
If you find a source of 'new' aft cleats please post the source.

The rudder is one of the few construction details for which we do have the FM drawing.
Drawing A 2804, rudder, tubes and tillers, and the blade appears to be stainless.
Intriguingly there is also an AVB full size drawing of a Huntsman rudder blade casting in Nickel Bronze AB2.

Playtime and Fridays Child both have bronze rudders, I've never noticed anything else.

My rudders are bronze castings, albeit considerably cut down from standard size, presumably a legacy from her racing past. They do very little at low speed and nothing in reverse, which is pretty normal.
