Swordsman name plates
Hello All,
Doctor Syn (SS #50) has just been painted including the engine compartment air intake cowls. I so doing I need to replace the decals which show "Super Swordsman". Does anyone have a file I could take to a vinyl graphic shop to have them cut the name in vinyl?
Alternatively, does anyone have a source for the metal "Swordsman" badges.
All the best.
Chris

Hi Chris
This forum needs some pics of your fab shiny new paint.
I thought someone like Phil Speed or Pete Bonsall might be able to help with Swordsman badge artworks. Maybe once they see their names in print they might pitch in.

Hi Chris, yep good shout Ben
i have some fairly ok'ish cowls with the decals
you are more than welcome to have a borrow, i do need to get them enlarged , some top flight Fairey peeps (didnt think that at the time !!) suggested they would need more air to pass for the chosen power plants, yep they were spot on as usual !! its another job on the list.
Were the originals a metal/chrome emblem rather than a decal ? but happy to go shares with any art/set up costs.
let me know where you are and i can arrange to drop them off . PB

The Huntsman ones are aluminium, hand cut, usually painted white. I'm not sure about the Swordsman ones, but I would guess the same, usually painted blue to sit on white airboxes.
(One some Huntsman you'll see polished stainless steel ones, I created the Huntsman badge artwork in CAD about 20 years ago, I think about 10 or 12 sets have been made.)

Re: Swordsman name plates
Hi All,
Thanks for your help. The ones Doctor Syn had (and now removed) were cut vinyl made when she was restored in 2005 by tracing some plastic signs.
I've seen some Swordsmen with what looked like chrome badges (may have been SS), They may have been on older Mk I and Mk II rather than SS so may not be appropriate for a SS
I've been thinking about using the air cowls to put her name on rather than Super Swordsman. Maybe a very small Super Swordsman with the sword and using the plastic Fairey Plaques which I have on her bow on them as well...... That way people in California won't think that her name is Super Swordsman .... If I had more skill I'd lay it out using a computer but sadly my lack of skill prevents this....
Comments on my idea?
All the very best,
Chris

p.s. Ben....
Yes, I'll post some photos.... The yard has done an excellent job with the paint... They're an "old school" yard in Sausalito which still uses marine ways.... The yard was originally constructed to build Liberty ships in WWII

Re: Swordsman name plates
Superswordsman logos seem to have been either thin black plastic cutouts or adhesive vinyl.
Anyway, as Mark Lewis has Athos in his works he has offered to help...

Chris,
please forgive my observations and comments!
Dr Syn is anything but original. not even close.
If you wish a stainless steel signage I will be happy to provide you one from Plymouth, Devon.

Re: Swordsman name plates
Sorry, just seen this, Unfortunately mine aren't "Super" badges anyway as she was converted to the raised aft cabin a bit later, but mine are a cast alloy material, I'd have thought the way forward would be to take a mould off some and get them cast in the UK then shipped across.

Re: Swordsman name plates
I have used a company in Plymouth called 'Phoenix316.com' for my 'swordsman' signs in the past. They are still operating I believe, using marine grade stainless steel in their work. Have a look at their website, they are accommodating to deal with.
