Fairey Folding Boat
Wanted, information or anecdotes relating to the Fairey Folding Boat. As some readers will know, postwar Fairey produced an innovative folding boat, which could be folded up and placed on the luggage rack of a car, or stored in a box not much bigger than that for a large croquet set. The boat was based on a design by Alan Vines, patented in 1939, and it is quite possible early examples were employed during WW2 on clandestine operations. Examples of the boat can be found at Falmouth Maritime Museum, Cowes, the Rural Life Museum, and an example I own. However, I would be interested to hear from anyone who may know of further examples, or own parts, photographs or ephemera relating to these folding boats, or perhaps remember their use. Anything greatly appreciated!
