Just collected the new cockpit screens from precision units in Poole they look sooo much better ( not fitted yet)very helpful cost at £550+vat for all 4 I feel was excellent and done quickly. looks like the place to go. Nick

Not Decided yet may see if I can get rubber with groove for the screen to fit in channel .there is a place in New Milton that has mountains of rubber mouldings and seals for motor industry they may have a something suitable When I did floating charge I used black etching primer on the perspex and frame then sealant . Screen frame is being welded to fill all the extra holes from the last 50 years and the pitting . Nick

Hi Ben thats the place I have used them for many years for various old car (classic) parts they seem to have even larger range
now sound proofing etc. Are your screens surface , channel mounted or bonded .Nick

Hi Douglas these were for a fantome .They have the formers for this boat and other fairey models. I took the originals down as template . Apparently fairey screens are "easy to re manufacture as they have quite simple curves" .Give them a call sure that you could get some re made at similar cost. Nick

I have previously had this idea that if I assmebled a screen with some setting goo, like Sikaflex or Saba that somewhere in a corner I might thread into the sealant when assembling a piece of nylon fishing line leaving a short tale sticking out each side, if I ever needed to disassemble it, I could use the fishing line like a cheese cutting wire.

I've absolutely no idea if it would work.

I guess the easiest upgrade would be a Pair of Dover block 140hp Turbo units like the Pacific 22 ribs had, 2722E I think.

Or something modern like Yanmar maybe.

It would need to be something considerably stronger. The windscreen replacement companies used to use a steel "cheese wire" to cut out bonded screens. It regularly snapped in the process of the job.
Also the fishing line would most likely degrade in sunlight.

When I had to do my screen, I went to these people in Waterlooville https://marinemastics.com/. They do some two pack mastic - like putty - you knead it together and then apply it and it sets slowly enough to do the job properly. It has lasted well over 10 years and still in there. I don't think it is as hard to break out as the modern bonding stuff on modern screens.

I'm sure you are right about both those points, but the basic idea is good. Maybe just needs a starting point somewhere that won't drip.

Or accept that in 10 or 15 years time it will need replacing and be wrecked on disassembly.

I don't know what the professionals like Mark Lewis do.

Westerly used that stuff extensively in the 1980's when I was looking after a fleet of them. It does allow disassembly.
