Perkins 6354 anodes
can any one tell me where the anodes are on the above. I have the Perkins workshop manual but I can't find a reference, also where is the thermostat on the closed loop of the radiator. Regards

I'm not aware that they had any.
In terms of the Thermostat I think it sits below the header tank recessed into the head..

Ian is right. No anodes and thermostat is under the header tank. I'd pull out the tube stack while at it for a good clean and check.
To my mind, having run 6354's for a decade, the most important thing is to whip the tube stack out of the charge cooler for cleaning and protecting the cast iron charge cooler body.

I did my RYA diesel course so now looking for a planned Maintenace schedule over winter. The rads were flushed before CTC but have made little difference to the engine temp. The RYA man said 90-100 was ok provided not for prolonged period. Any views?
On a related point has anyone plumbed a separate fuel polisher filter. It sounds a good idea to keep it clean and looks a cost effective solution given the size of the tanks and cost of re filling. There is a temptation to fit non OEM items but assume this is a slippery slope

Non oem racors are quite good -you can see a comparison on you tube of the bigger knock off racors versus a genuine racor from the metal work point of view they are 99.9% identical and of course they will accept genuine Racor elements. the only step I would take is to strip the casings and give the bracketry a coat of paint over anything unpainted.

It will depend on the thermostat and pressure cap fitted....In general (and not necessarily just for 6354s) most 'stats have 2 stage opening...around 80C and then at 89C is a good guess...Jonathan Langham wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 9:52 amThe RYA man said 90-100 was ok provided not for prolonged period. But it is quite normal for an engine to run at around 100C (indicated) when under high load...The (fresh) water/coolant in the closed circuit system is under pressure...1.3bar is fairly common... This means the coolant won't be at boil/steam point until approx 120C for pure water and usually a few degrees higher for coolant mixture.
If your temps are at 100C under load, I'd consider that pretty normal...anything over 110C though and you need to investigate or throttle back to reduce the temps.
If you are under 80C, then the engine won't be running at maximum efficiency...probably your 'stat is either stuck open or has been removed/gutted...Often done to try and mask other issues!
