Cummins 370 6BTA's inc. ZF220a

Post by BlueMarlin »

Hello folks. First post here. Feeling a bit guilty it’s in the classifieds  but hope to meet some of you when we finally manage to get to some club events!

I've decided to re-engine Blue Marlin, a Swordsman 37, and will have a pair of Cummins 370hp 6BTA’s with ZF220a gearboxes available for collection circa. January when they’ll be lifted out.

I’m advertising them now should any potential buyers wish to sea trial them before committing to purchase. The hour meters gave up the ghost some years ago, but I estimate they’ve done well under 3k hours since they were commissioned in 2003. They’ve had a lot of money spent on servicing them over the last year and a half, including various replacement hoses, new wiring harnesses and Seaboard Marine CCV kits.

They have been running beautifully over the past two seasons having twice taken us to the Scillies and back to the Solent without missing a beat. The sale will include original dials, dash wiring (replaced last year), new pigtails from the engine harnesses, new ignition key switches and start/stop buttons plus original Morse throttle controls.

The Starboard ZF gearbox is the original, the Port gearbox was replaced in 2017 after a bodged rebuild of the original gearbox. All receipts and full history of these engines will be available to inspect.

They would make an ideal rebuild/refurb project for someone and if I had the time and talent, I’d do it myself! I’m looking for £16k for everything and would prefer to sell as a package unless they fail to sell before January.

Please PM me if you have an interest.

Many thanks
David

Just an update that two members have expressed an interest so far.

First dibs and an inspection/sea trial has been agreed with the first member to respond, scheduled first week in October.

Many thanks,
David

Well sadly its transpired the engines won't fit the boat of the first member to respond.

After an inspection and sea trial last week and having taken lots of pics and measurements and the opinion of a marine engineer, major surgery would be required to his fuel tanks etc. to squeeze them in.

I've therefore tried to contact the second chap who responded so unless he's still interested, they could still be up for sale.

If anyone else is interested, please send a PM.

Cheers
David

We only chatted by text so I don't know the ins and outs. The problem is mainly on the port side so to avoid imbalance, both tanks would need changing/relocating. More time, money, hassle etc. I guess.

Thinking the engines would be snapped up by the first member, the second gentlemen is now deeper into his original re-engining project, so after some consideration, he's understandably decided to stick with it and see it through.

The Cummins and ZF boxes are therefore back on the market. Please note the ZF220a's have a ratio of 1.53:1.

May I kindly request that any interested parties please check they'll fit your application before inspection or sea trial. There are good resources on line for measurements with various gearboxes including ZF220a:

Thanks for the suggestion. Wasn't aware of that site.

Was also advised to put them on Apollo Duck, which I'll do shortly.

Thx
