Ben - had you not gone for it I'd have taken it - better than than see it turned into a planter or some other horrible fate!

He had a lot of interest, more because he was asking £25, less because its a little Fairey.

A name plate on the back is MacQuack, clearly he thought it was a Duckling, it was named that before he bought it, poor thing has been suffering mistaken identity for a long time.

Hi Ben,

Much as I hate to piddle on the BBQ, the story the other night about the birth of the Duckling is....a story and not one that is supported by the available material. As shame, it would have been lovely. I've some early media stuff on the Duckling and the timelines just don't match up.
And nor would one fit into the after cockpit on RoNeY...I'd measured from the rear of the seats to the stern deck and - well, 25ft is just a foot too short to get a 2.3m inflatable in. There's a near perfect spot for a Mariner 2.2 outboard but my XM 230 ends up with the last foot or so hanging out - that or carry it part inflated! Ah well, all these things are sent to try us!

Back to the Duckling issue - I'm supposed to be speaking at Hamble this autumn on the subject of Nevil Shute and the Hamble but one of the other talks that I've done looked at Faireys (Firefly - another name for Hamble) so they may well wish for a subject change - I'll wait and see!

Catch up again soon

D
